Manufacturer of the Year
Wall Colmonoy’s shortlist for Manufacturer of the Year reflects significant investment in its Pontardawe facility. The following highlights represent some of the key factors that have supported the company’s nomination:
Investing for the Future
With a recent £4.5 million investment into major projects, Wall Colmonoy are strengthening their long-term position, scaling capacity, enhancing capability and preparing their manufacturing base to support the next generation of engineered materials and components.

Integrating Automation and AI
With automation, digital monitoring and AI-driven process controls now embedded in the foundry, have increased accuracy, boosted efficiency and reduced waste, raising the performance of every component manufactured.

Advanced Metallurgy That Strengthens Performance
In recent years, Wall Colmonoy invested £500,000 into the lab, making it one of the UK’s most advanced metallurgical facilities, enabling analysis to materials more accurate, validate performance more confidently and deliver stronger, more consistent results for our customers.

Circular Economy
Our return-and-remelt system keeps high-value materials in circulation – a true circular economy approach that cuts waste, lowers environmental impact and gives customers a more responsible, resource efficient way to manufacture without compromising performance

Innovative Business of the Year
Its nomination for Innovative Business of the Year recognises major technological advances:
One of Europe’s Most Advanced VPIC Foundries
Backed by DASA, Innovate UK and DTEP, Wall Colmonoy’s £2m VPIC project enabled commissioning of one of Europe’s largest and most advanced Vacuum Precision Investment Casting foundries - a major step forward for UK manufacturing capability. In collaboration with Rolls-Royce, the foundry produces aerospace-grade, high-performance components previously only achievable by the world’s largest aerospace firms. This investment strengthens the UK supply chain and opens new opportunities across defence, aerospace and industrial markets.

AI-powered casting simulations
Using advanced Python and AI modelling, Wall Colmonoy are able to simulate a casting virtually, uncovering potential issues before metal is poured. By perfecting designs digitally first, defects have been reduced, improving consistency and made the entire casting process more efficient.

Breaking Through a Previously “Impossible” Process
A defence project had been stalled for 10 years because of a wide-gap brazing challenge that experts believed could not be solved. Wall Colmonoy team broke through that barrier by engineering a new brazing method capable of joining materials under conditions previously considered impossible. This innovation eliminated a major bottleneck and enabled a critical defence project to move forward.

Safer Solutions
Chromium VI has been used for decades to protect metal parts from corrosion, but it’s now being phased out due to carcinogens. While there are alternative technologies, many of them cannot be used on certain safety-critical nuclear components. The team at Wall Colmonony identified a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) process that can replicate the same hard, protective chromium layer as traditional Chromium VI plating, even on complex-shaped parts, giving nuclear customers a safer, high-quality option that meets strict requirements.

Rob Davies, Managing Director of Wall Colmonoy Limited, states, “These nominations are a testament to our workforce. With nearly 45% of our team having more than a decade of service, their dedication, consistency, and technical depth underpin the quality of our products and drive our innovation. We are proud to celebrate their achievements, and the contribution Wall Colmonoy continues to make to the Swansea Valley.”
