HELPING TO REDEFINE MANUFACTURING AND INSPIRE THE NEXT GENERATION
In celebration of Manufacturing Day, Wall Colmonoy Aerobraze Oklahoma City will open its doors on Friday, October 2, 2020 to students from local career techs and high schools as part of an effort to inspire the next generation with a career in manufacturing.
“Manufacturing, unfortunately, has suffered from an image problem over the past few decades. However, there are so many great technological advancements happening right now like Industry 4.0 - automating processes and production - and 3-D printing. We look forward to introducing what we do and our advancements in this area to the next engineers, welders, assemblers and leaders,” said Jeff Greer, General Manager.
“Wall Colmonoy has been part of the Oklahoma City community for over 50 years and has a long pioneering history within the Aerospace industry. Oklahoma’s aerospace industry is responsible for over $27B in annual sales, delivering some of the most rewarding career paths for young Oklahomans. We want to help build the next generation of Aerospace engineers, welders and technicians.”
Last year, a startling half a million jobs in manufacturing were left unfilled. If we don’t do something to reverse this now, $454 billion in production will be at risk by 2028, according to Deloitte. [1]
Over the next decade, there are expected to be 3.5 million job openings in manufacturing, with a growing skill shortage. [2]
The main priorities of Manufacturing Day as listed by the Manufacturing Institute are:
- Change the perception of careers in manufacturing to reflect its true status as the most advanced, high-tech industry in the country.
- Re-establish the U.S. as the global leader of manufacturing education.
- Advocate for education and job training policies that strengthen the U.S. manufacturing workforce.
Planned activities at Aerobraze OKC include tours of the facility, equipment and product manufacturing demonstrations of machining, welding, brazing, fabrication, and 3D printing. The facility strictly adheres to COVID-19 standards and policies.
