Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) with DPF (Diesel Particulate Filler), Exhaust Gas Recirculation units (EGRs), Catalytic Converters, Fuel Cells and Heat Exchangers for aerospace, automotive and HVAC industries reduce emissions and improve fuel economy. Wall Colmonoy manufactures Nicrobraz® (nickel-based) brazing products, which are used extensively in the manufacture of these products.
With today’s tighter worldwide emissions, Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is the latest advancement in reducing emissions for diesel engines. SCRs for diesel engines convert Nitrous Oxides (NOx) into Nitrogen (N2) and Water (H2O). It often works with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) which removes diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. Soot is produced when diesel engines burn fuel, but a DPF captures this soot to prevent the release of harmful exhaust emissions.
EGRs are also commonly deployed in diesel engines to reduce the concentration of NOx. EGRs are usually brazed under high vacuum conditions using nickel-based filler metals to achieve good metallurgical bonding. Read about Nicrobraz® and EGRs in this Nicrobraz News Issue.
A catalytic converter is an emissions control device that converts toxic gases and pollutants in exhaust gas to less toxic pollutants by catalyzing a redox reaction (an oxidation and a reduction reaction).
